Flight Test

1-28-07

Ed Hasch did the airworthiness inspection today. Passed with no problems except a couple of placards which were completed on site. Weather was not fit for first flight.

6.5  hrs

2-4-07 First Flight Today!!!!! Accelerated to 100 and 1000 FPM on climbout almost immediately. Flew for .9 hr all engine indications were in the green except water temp which was running above red line. I will check calibration before next flight. Also ran out of up elevator trim at around 60 indicated I'll readjust the neutral position. As smooth a first flight as I've ever had.

2-8-07 Second flight. Love the way this gem flies. Added coolant before flight and found it was down approx 18 ozs. according to Ed it may take a little time to work all the air pockets out of the cooling system. The water temp still ran high and I'll check it again before the next flight. Adjustment of trim system seems to have helped although I ordered new trim cable and housing from Steve today as they have switched to a spiral wound housing with a slightly larger ID for smoother operation. 1.2 flight hours 2 landings.
2-9-07 It appears there may be some error in the airspeed indicator I'll start running 4 direction flights and verify with the gps on the next flights. today flew .4 hrs
2-11-07 3.4 hrs today. Just enjoyed the flying. Topped off the cooling system again. Water temp dropped to 180 and stayed there CHT's stayed at 200 oil temp 180. OAT was around 50. Pulled the top plugs just to check the color and they were a nice gray color.
2-21-07 Replaced trim cable 3.5 hrs
2-23-07 .5 hrs confirmed approx 9% at 110 mph ias, non-linear as the error apperars to less as speed decreases converging at around 50 mph ias. More to follow. Trim works much smoother and is easier to roll.
3-2-07 .5 hrs.
3-8-07 Struts began to flutter at around 110-115mph Flutter would not stop until speed was allowed to bleed off below 60. I mentioned my concern of this possibility in the builders log during construction. Easy fix I'll add a diagonal in the jury struts. Keep it under 100 until then. 1.0 hrs
3-11-07 3.4 hrs.
3-13-07 2.1 hrs
3-15-07 2.0 hrs
3-20-07 Fabricated and added jury strut diagonals.m Remade static port to correct error. Added Kuntzleman strobes 8.5 hrs

Top pics before adding diagonals

4-15-07 1.0 hrs engine had some hesitation.
4-20-07 replaced fuel filter and flushed fuel lines 3.0 hrs
5-13-07 1.0 hrs
5-20-07 3.1 hrs engine began shuddering again. I'm thinking vapor lock as it's only happened when its hot
5-22-07 Added tee in fuel line after fuel pump with the outlet welded shut and drilled with a number 64 bit as recommended by Ed. Then ran the return line to the water separator under the seat. 2.0 hrs
12-13-09 I have not updated the site in a while and thought I would bring everyone up to speed. I the last two years I have put around 80 hours on the plane.
Since my last posting the engine mis-firings were corrected with a change from where I was getting fuel. I have been running 100LL and have not had so much as a miss since.
I have had no addl issues to correct other than those mentioned above. I just kind of let this website go after the initial build but several people have asked for an update. I do have the plane for sale as I bought an Archer. I will leave this site up as long as I can afford to keep it, its paid up for a couple of years at least.
I'm going to add a couple of ad links. If you will help by using these links if you are ordering from any of the affiliates it will help me pay to keep this site up for reference material.
